I headed out from Modevitza around 9 a.m. going north, Sucevitsa, Radauti and finally Putna, all lively small towns laid out along the highway. Outside Modevitza, I spotted people standing alongside the road here, there, beside tall milk cans. Ah, a milk pickup was in progress. I parked ahead and walked back where a woman in headscarf and clogs waited beside her 2 large pails of milk. She was willing for a photo. Back in town, a young man named Stefan waited with his horse and cart stacked high with milk cans. We chatted, his English was good but he seemed reluctant to be photographed. I made some photos anyway.
I shot some landscapes on the way to Putna, a monastery town north of Radauti. Frustrating at times as the traffic on two-land roads is thick and speedy. Cars barrel through towns at high speeds darting between the many bicyclists and horse-drawn carts. I keep trying to find back roads in villages where people are walking and I can stop them. But the road system here in Romania is basic unlike Greece where main highways often run parallel with the old road, two lanes only where many opportunities avail to wander and look for good photo opportunities.
